Early Treatment (interceptive)
It is recommended that children be screened for the benefits of early interceptive treatment by the age of 7. Early treatment includes: coordinating the width of the upper and lower dental arches, guiding the growth of the upper or lower jaws, and gaining space for the eruption of permanent teeth. Early therapy can simplify later treatment and may be important in the child's dental as well as psychosocial development.

Invisalign
Invisalign is an aesthetic and comfortable way of achieving straight teeth. Using state of the art technology, teeth can be moved using computer fabricated see-through aligners. Each set of aligners will be worn every two weeks to move the teeth in the proper location. The total treatment time for invisalign guided treatment usually averages nine to fifteen months. A proper screening process is required to determine if Invisalign can achieve the most aesthetic result. In some instances, preinvisalign treament is needed to fix difficult movements before invisalign treatment can be initiated. Intraoral Scanning
Smile Frederick is proud to be one of the first and few orthodontic providers with a state-of-the-art iTero intraoral scanner. The scanner is a quick and comfortable alternative to messy impressions and provides digital beginning and after treatment models. Invisalign scans ensure quick turnaround times for tray fabrication and delivery. Appliances can also be fabricated through intraoral scanning.

Orthognathic Surgery
While braces are used to straighten teeth, surgical orthodontics (known as orthognathic surgery) can correct jaws when they are out of position. Correction of jaw positioning can allow improved facial esthetics and functional improvements such as the ability to chew, speak, and breath. This is usually done in coordination with braces and in limited cases, with Invisalign. Surgery is usually indicated for adults and jaw growth must be completed. Usually jaw growth has ceased at age 16 for girls and age 18 for boys. Pre-surgical orthodontics movements are usually started one to two years before they are ready for surgery.
Adult Treatment
Adults comprise about 1 in every 5 orthodontic patients. Some patients may have had previous orthodontic treatment. Some adult patients may have lost teeth and need prior tooth movement for placement of prosthetic teeth. Some adult patients may require jaw surgery since growth in the jaws is no longer active.
Invisalign Teen
Invisalign now has an option for teenagers as a more aesthetic and comfortable way of straightening their teeth. As with normal aligners, each set of aligner is worn for a two week duration for an average total treatment time of nine to fifteen months. Invisalign teen is equipped with color changing compliance indicators and six free replacement aligners. A proper screening process is required to determine if Invisalign can achieve the most aesthetic result. In some instances, preinvisalign treament is needed to fix difficult movements before invisalign treatment can be initiated.

Retainers
When braces are removed, teeth are prone to moving back to their original position before braces were put on. The final result to the orthodontic treatment depends on this retention phase of treatment.
There are three main types of retainers:
- Hawley retainers are traditional retainers that can be customized to make some movements while in the retention phase of treatment. They can also be fabricated in several different colors and designs.
- Essix retainers are commonly known as See Through retainers. They are clear trays that cover all the teeth to keep them straight. They are an esthetic alternative to Hawley retainers and can be made on the spot. Essix retainers can also be used as bleaching trays if the patient chooses to whiten his/her teeth.
- Permanent retainers: After orthodontic treatment, a common method of retention is the placement of a retainer behind the front teeth to keep them straight. Usually a removable Hawley or Essix retainers is offered in addition to permanent retainers.
